Bottoms up! Finding the advantage in the global beer value chain
The qualities that make a business great are universal in nature. How does the Growth Equity Strategies team identify and capture value?...
For alpha generation, the pursuit of greater upside potential and managing absolute levels of risk are inextricable goals.
Each tenet of the Loomis Sayles Growth Equity Strategies (GES) alpha thesis is designed – individually and collectively – to promote this dual objective for investors.
A single, differentiated investment philosophy (alpha thesis) and proprietary seven-step research framework has underpinned all GES investment strategies since inception, for more than 18 years.
The GES team culture promotes intellectual honesty, curiosity and independent thinking. There have been no departures from the Team since its inception.
Developing a deep understanding of each investment can also help mitigate risk through investment insights, so the team’s active risk management process is integral to its investment process.
The GES team believes that regardless of location or domicile, structural drivers for sound investment decision making and analysis remain the same.

Aziz Hamzaogullari is the Founder, CIO and Portfolio Manager of the Growth Equity Strategies (GES) team and the creator of its investment philosophy and process. He is supported by seven dedicated research analysts and one research associate, each of whom was hired, trained, and mentored by portfolio manager, Aziz Hamzaogullari. To date, there have been no departures from the team.
The GES team culture is truly collaborative and promotes intellectual honesty, curiosity and independent thinking. Each team member is actively engaged throughout the investment process. All research work is vetted through team discussion and includes attempts to disprove the investment thesis as a way to test its validity. This practice helps the team overcome the bias in human behavior toward overconfidence that could lead to overstating the investment’s potential. The GES team feels it is crucial to clearly grasp what could go wrong with a company, not just what can go right, in order to minimize downside risk.

The GES team, the team behind the Loomis Sayles Global Equity Fund, is dedicated to the longstanding GES investment philosophy and process, which represents its fundamental beliefs regarding the most effective way to generate alpha and leverages its understanding of persistent anomalies that create asset mispricing. Collectively, the integrated system forms the GES team’s alpha thesis.
